If only it worked straight out of the box
3 out of 5 stars.
Bought the 730 to replace one that was stolen, but had worked very well. My first thought was to protect it with a password. Oh dear, I tell you that I have not succeeded yet. You cannot do it direct onto the device, but must use Operate My Go in TT home. Unfortunately this function will not work despite requesting on line help. Now, one of the other functions does not work either. Also after downloading latest map, my computer did not recognise device, so I had to reset it.
As a navigational aid, it's fine, but software decidedly dodgy.

Update. Have received a solution from TT technical support, which amongst other things involved deleting the device application in order to install a newer version. This was quite long-winded, but it did solve the problem.

Not enough memory
2 out of 5 stars.
I bought my Go 730 recently and have not got around to using it yet as I'm still trying to load the latest European maps. Home software is poor. Latest version of the map is almost 2Gb and the device has only a 2Gb memory which also has to accomodate the operating software and voices, etc. Consequently the update doesn't fit on the device! How do TomTom get away with selling something not fit for purpose? I know there is an SD card slot, but no card is included in the package and it won't work with the latest maps without it! In addition, I had terrible problems with the download and spent hours trying to get it to work, turning off Virus checkers, firewalls, and even my screen saver. The company claim the download will resume from where it failed. Not in my experience. I had to start from scratch each time until it eventually downloaded - and then wouldn't install because of the memory shortage. It may get better if I ever get to use it, but up to now, I think TomTom need to do some serious work on their device and their software.

tomtom 730 sat nav
5 out of 5 stars.
Glad I stuck with Tomtom for my new satnav. Its nice to keep getting map updates, free at present but when the 2 years is up I will have to get them less often. Toured France this summer (2009) and the Tomtom was top of my list of essential items, the next was walkie talkies to keep in touch with another family following us just behind and then the airconditioning in the car.

A good, reliable product
4 out of 5 stars.
I've had this product a couple of months now. Generally it is a good, reliable product and I really like it. Make sure you get your free map upgrades during the first month of ownership. However, you'll need a 4GB SD card to do this, as the device itself doesn't quite have the capacity for the latest maps. A shame, but an SD card only costs around 6 quid Kingston Technology 4GB Secure Digital High Capacity Class4 Card. Take your time to familiarise yourself with how it operates, and install all the updates you require. Also be prepared to search the TomTom site and Google to answer queries. Having said that, so long as you are willing to put a little bit of effort in up front then it's a good product. I suspect if you just take it out the box, plug it in and go then you may have difficulties. But a little time investment up front pays off. I find it's timing of journeys so far to have been excellent, only minor map errors. You can plan routes that stop or pass by places of interest. The only thing it doesn't do that I would like is to be able to put in a list of places to stop and have it plan the best route between them, e.g. fastest route....all it does is plan a route in the order you place them...but if you were say a delivery driver then you would probably want the fastest route, which it doesn't do. Other than that...great! By the way, would also recommend getting PORTABLE WEIGHTED CUSHION FRICTION MOUNT with ARM and HOLDER for the TOMTOM GO 520, 720, 920, 530, 730 AND 930. This is reliable, I've used it fine in 3 different cars, and it means there are no tell-tale signs in your car that you have a satnav to be nicked!

Good Companian
4 out of 5 stars.
Bought this after I lost my first Sat Nav a Garmin 265WT within 3 months of buying it. I looked at quite a few models and considered this as best value for money.

It has all the features of a good satnav and is quick in locating the satelites.

There are only 2 minor issues with this

1) The screeen is difficult to read in dalylight when the light reflects from the bashboard on the screen - I did not have this problem in the Garmin

2) Its fiddly to hook up to the windscreen and the suction can fall off at times , again Garmin was better here as it has a locking mechanism

Other wise in terms of navigation and features this model has it all
