| Ok unit for the starter, but increasing lacking behind after other brand | |
|  | I own this unit for over 1 year now. It was perfectly fine in the first couple of months, it met my demand back then. As more codec and mkv file becomes more popular, this unit is not keeping up with the technologies coming out. One reason I bought this unit is that it claims it is upgradable. But I have not seen a single update or upgrade available since I purchased it. To be able to use mkv, I was told to convert the file to avi first, and so far I can successfully converted about 40% of MKV files I have. All the other failed during conversion or end up with no sound while playback in the unit. First of all, why can't they provide an update so we don't need to convert. If I need to convert every fricking thing from now on, I can get a much cheaper unit which can only work with one format and have me do conversion for the rest of its life.
Its seems to me they have no intention of utilizing the upgradable feature of the unit or it is just a marketing gimicks. I would look for unit from other brand which stands behind their products and provides regular update to keep up with the technologies.

| | | Great product! It's easy to set up (but then, I'm a bit of a techie). The features are great. The best part about it are the constant updates to make the system better. They're always trying to make the system better by adding on new features and making everything more efficient.
The bad part about it is that it doesn't play music that are in subfolders. Maybe they'll improve that with the next upgrade.

Pros:
It plays back DVD/ISO files very well
Cons:
Price point compared to similar products is very high
Noisy
Terrible wireless network connectivity
Horrible user interface
Advertising is misleading
Terrible support, no firmware upgrades since May of 2007, despite a large number of complaints.
Only supports NDAS "streaming"
No internet radio
I took this device back for a refund after a very short period of time. It just wasn't worth the money. I ended up buy a different product with twice the capabilities for much less with excellent support.
BTW...this is the only device I've every owned that has an active user group that recommends returning the product before the return policy expires. Seriously.

| | This is th last time i buy a thing from Mvix. I got two of these media center and one of them keeps freezeing every time i play a movie and sometimes it just hangs up and never reset unless i pull out the power cord plus the fan sound is toooo loud even anoying.
The other one is even worse, first when i switch it on there is nothing displayed on the LCD at the front face of the player. Secondly after 30 sec. it switches back off by itself !! plus when i opened it to install the HD i found a loose wire and another one that is not properly soldered into the power cable that connects the HD to the player.
Basically, both of them are not servicable !! i tried to contact custmer support at Mvix it took them 2 weeks to answer the claim ticket and even worse they were so cold on the respond. Now i sent the players back to Mvix for replacement and i am afraid i am gonna get another two bad ones again What a service ??
